A 50-YEAR-OLD man was targeted in a "nasty" machete attack at a bus stop in Birmingham, police have said.

The man was taken to hospital after the attack

The victim was waiting on Tile Cross Road when the incident took place on Monday morning.

He suffered serious injuries and is now receiving treatment in hospital.

One man, who did not wish to be named, told the Birmingham Mail: “It was about 8.10am and a man walked past the shop by the bus stop and another man started chopping him.

“He wouldn’t stop. He carried on hitting him.

“His clothes were red. His arms, elbows, his back were all dripping in blood.”

The victim was 'targeted' say the police

The witness added: ”It was madness. The victim was lying in the middle of the road.”

Birmingham Police have since arrested and questioned a 29-year-old man on suspicion of assault.

Officers were also hoping to track down a second man, who was seen fleeing to a nearby blue BMW.

Police shut off part of the road during the investigation

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield said: "This was a nasty attack that happened in a busy area in broad daylight this morning.

"We've already had several witnesses come forward and I'd ask anyone else who has information about what happened to contact us as soon as possible.

"At this early stage we believe this to have been a targeted attack. This kind of violence will not be tolerated and we need your help to bring those responsible to justice."

Anyone with information about the attack is urged to contact the police.
