Woman, 22, suffers badly swollen leg and nearly dies after taking the pill
Lauren Brown struggles with everyday tasks because of the DVT
Lauren Brown was rushed to hospital when she was found with a near-fatal blood clot in her extremely swollen leg – caused by taking Co-cyprindiol.
She says her GP never warned her of the side effects when he prescribed the drug to her.
Doctors discharged the 22-year-old from hospital after three days’ treatment for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) – but Lauren says the incident has “ruined her life”.
The events co-ordinator now struggles to do the simplest everyday tasks – such as eating and moving around.
The condition has left her with chest pains and breathlessness.
Lauren Brown said the Co- cyprindiol has ruined her life
“This has ruined my life,” said Lauren, of Market Weighton, East Yorks. “People should know the what they are taking and the effects which it causes.
“I didn’t think my life could be put at risk over something that seemed so simple. "I'm only 22 and never expected that a contraceptive pill could cause all of this.
"I have blood tests every day and have to wear compression stockings, in an attempt to prevent any further complications.”
She added she wants to make other girls aware of the risks associated with certain contraceptive pills.
A legal firm is helping Lauren to raise awareness of the potential adverse effects of the oral contraceptive pill called Co- cyprindiol.
