A young father was jailed for nine years on Monday, October 5, after a jury convicted him of killing his 11-week-old baby son by shaking him so violently doctors found 18 bones fractures on his tiny body. Jordan Saxton was unanimously convicted of manslaughter but cleared of a more serious charge of murder.

The jury heard that the 22-year-old man had been left alone with baby Jayden for just 90 minutes when he gripped his son's chest and shook him causing a 'catastrophic' brain injury. Damage to blood vessels in the baby's eyes also left it blinded in the attack.

The court heard that baby Jayden was left with 18 fractures to his tiny body as well brain injuries on November 16, 2014, when the violence occurred. He had eight fractures to his legs, a number of broken ribs and had a severe brain injury when he was taken to hospital later that day.
Jayden, who lived with his parents in a flat in Faringdon, Oxon., was transferred to the Royal Bristol Hospital for Children where he later died on November 18.

Medics at the two-week trial told the court the injuries would have required 'considerable force,' similar to that of a high speed car crash.

Throughout the trial Saxton maintained his innocence and said he had been feeding his son at their home when he began to choke and stopped breathing. However, witness statements by doctors and paramedics could find no evidence of choking or food caught in his throat.

Saxon, of Wingate Close, Oxford, was arrested following a four-month investigation into the death of his son and was charged with murder.
