It was a Cool paddle boat ride
A love-struck man popped the question to his girlfriend as they sat on a boat with pals. But his romantic gesture went spectacularly wrong after she playfully hit his arm — and he dropped the expensive engagement ring into the water in a YouTube video.

Hilarious video shows the man, identified only as Shane, slowly paddling with a group of friends on the Wisconsin River outside of Muscoda, Wis.

He suddenly asks his girlfriend, Cheri, to look over at four people standing on the shore, holding up signs that reads: "Will you marry me?" With the ring held between his thumb and index finger, he goes to propose.

he popped the question
she knocked the ring off his hand with excitement
But before he can do so, she inadvertently knocks the jewelry out of his hands — and straight into the water.

"Oh, my God!" Shane repeatedly says as he desperately scrabbles around to try and find the band.

Covering her mouth with her hands, Cheri then starts to sob before the video cuts out.

While viewers have speculated that it was an elaborately staged stunt, a friend who witnessed the incident, Elias Eitsert, told the Daily News that the couple is "still happily engaged."

"We searched for the ring for 2 days and never found it," he added.

The video was uploaded to YouTube by username Swilk 16 on Thursday and has since been viewed nearly 2 million times.

"A couple of weeks ago I proposed to my girlfriend. Here is what happened," he wrote in the description.
