In Argentina there has been a certain amount of criticism over the fact Lionel Messi missed both international friendlies against El Salvador and Ecuador.
During their stay in the USA, we were treated to a number of pictures of Messi looking glum on the bench, watching his team mates strut their stuff.
Messi went for a scan on his right foot but there was no abnormalities found, yet there is a clear inflammation on the right side of his foot.
Agencia Télam have released the picture above and widespread reports on Wednesday confirm that Messi picked up the injury from international team mate Martin Demichelis in the Barcelona Champions League second leg win over Manchester City. See picture below.
Messi played El Clasico against Real Madrid but has been in pain ever since.
Argentina coach Tata Martin said before yesterday’s win over Ecuador: “With Messi there is no mystery. It hurts a lot when he puts shoes on.”
Messi faces a very tight schedule in the coming weeks as Barcelona aim for a triple of La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.
Barcelona are due to visit Celta Vigo on Sunday night, but Messi is already rated doubtful for that game.
