While white people might think it’s something to gather around their necks when it’s cold outside. But the true definition is a piece of fabric covering a black girl’s hair at night in order to keep the moisture or oils from leaching out of our tresses while their heads are lying on something.
Laid.
While the usual English definition is the past tense of lay, the black girl’s definition is when your hair looks really good and so your edges do.
Wrap.
If you think Rihanna is wearing a hat at this photo, you’re wrong. You’re also wrong if you think that wrap is a food item. For any black girl the word “wrap” means this kind of hairstyle.
Let’s clean the kitchen…
It doesn’t mean that you have to clean the room where you cook stuff. It means the time has come to make some nape undercut design. The word “kitchen” means the hair at the nape of a black girl’s neck.
Relaxed.
While a white person might think “relaxed” means nothing bothers you and you feel carefree, for a black girl the word “relaxed” means hair straightened by a chemical substance. By the way, relaxing hair too often is a one-way ticket to hair breakage.
Transitioning.
The process of transitioning means letting your natural texture take over after applying tons of relaxers to your hair.
Natural.
When your hair isn’t relaxed.
Kinky.
While an average white person might think about doing some weird sexy stuff, “kinky” means a type of black girls’ hair texture with a naturally tight curl or coil.
Weave.
Human or synthetic hair that you buy and then attach to your head.
Shrink.
The girl at this photo didn’t do any haircut. Shrinkage is when your hair magically looks shorter after you washed and dried it.
Stretch.
But you can show everyone how long your hair really is by stretching it.
