A three-year-old has been exposed to graphic s’exual imagery while using a child-friendly app, a British watchdog has revealed.
The Advertising Standards Agency received two complaints from parents whose young children were asked if they wanted to “f***” a scantily clad lady whilst playing an apparently innocent game called My Talking Tom.
This massively popular game invites players to nurture their own baby kitten and was so popular that it shot to number one on Apple’s App Store in 135 countries.
But the ASA today upheld a complaint from two parents whose three and seven-year-old children were blasted with “s’exually explicit content”.
The kids were shown two separate adverts for a website called Affair Alert, which offers “discrete encounters and secret affairs”.
One ad depicted a bare-breasted woman sitting in front of a mirror and covering her crotch with her hands.
“The words “wanna f***?’ were written in lipstick on the mirror,” the ASA wrote.“Text above the image stated ‘Want to f*** her?’ and the options ‘YES’, ‘MAYBE’ and ‘NO’ were stated below.”
The second ad offered a similar choice, but with a slightly different image. It is unclear which option the children opted for, or whether they alerted their parents to avoid clicking on the advert. Two British firms were named in the complaint.
Outfit7 Ltd, who designed the “My Talking Tom” app, insisted it filtered all “inappropriate” content including “all porn-related ads”.
Plymouth Associates Ltd, the firm behind Affair Alert, said a “third party” may have found a way of publishing the ad maliciously “without their knowledge or consent”.
