A taxi driver was arrested on a charge of rape and murder after raping a baby because her mother refused to have sex with him, police in South Africa said.
20-year-old Asithandile Mazomba said that she and the 27-year-old taxi driver, who was not identified, went out for drinks along with her 1-year-old daughter Elam.
Mazomba said that at some point, the driver made it clear that when they are done drinking, the two will have sex at his apartment.
The young mother refused, and the driver became angry. He then allegedly pulled a screwdriver before raping and killing her baby.
The woman fled from the scene, fearing for her life. The next morning, a passerby found the dead baby in the bushes on the side of the road.
