A woman who sued her 12-year-old nephew after he accidentally broke her wrist has lost her claim for £84,000 damages.

Jennifer Connell claimed Sean Tarala should be held accountable for his behaviour after he jumped into her arms for a cuddle at his eighth birthday party.

But a jury took just 25 minutes to decide the 54-year-old didn't deserve a single penny and threw the case out of court.

Speaking about the youngster outside court, one female juror told the Daily News: “We just couldn't find him, you know, liable for what happened."

Connell, from New York, had told the court how the injury had affected her life and how she now struggled to her “hors d’oeuvre plate” at parties.

The accident happened during the youngster’s eighth birthday party During the court case Connell told Judge Edward Stodolink her nephew was “very loving” and “sensitive” towards her.

But as she appeared giving evidence in the Superior Court in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she said she should be compensated for her injury.

Sean's lawyer, however, described the boy as a "great kid" and said the only thing he is guilt of was "trying to give his aunt a hug on his birthday."

Thomas Noniewicz told the Daily News: "Kids will be kids. He was an eight-year-old boy being an eight-year-old boy. Sean was not negligent."

The court heard Sean had just received a red bicycle for his birthday and was riding it when Connell arrived at the home in Westport.
