Leonard Nimoy, whose portrayal of "Star Trek's" logic-driven, half-human science officer Spock made him an iconic figure to generations, is dead. HIs wife, Susan Bay Nimoy confirmed his death to the Los Angeles Times and New York Times. He was aged 83.

The cause of death was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Last year, the actor revealed that he has lung disease -- although he had stopped smoking 30 years ago. Here's what he tweeted out recently about his declining health:
