Drake_Grabs_Four_Awards_At_BET_Hip_Hop_Awards_2014
It was a hugely successful night for Drake at the BET Hip Hop Awards yesterday as the rapper has clearly still got the magic touch, scooping an incredible four gongs, while Kendrick Lamar and DJ Mustard, who proved to be this year’s underdog, also walked away with some of the top accolades.
The annual awards, which took place in September but aired last night on BET, was full of surprises this time round with Bow Wow and Love & Hip Hop star Erica Mena confirming their engagement and a batch of unexpected winners giving artists other than Kanye West and Jay Z, a chance to shine. Drake proved to be the top winner winning four awards, which included the coveted Album of the Year, Best Live Performer and People’s Champ Award.
Man of the night was DJ Mustard, who was crowned DJ of the Year, MVP of the Year and Producer of the Year, following an incredible 12 months which has seen him produce tracks for the likes of Chris Brown, Iggy Azalea, French Montana, Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa. Kendrick Lamar is preparing to return with new music this quarter and he’s already gotten off to a storming start as he walked away with Lyricist of the Year and Sweet 16: Best Feature Verse for the controversial track Control.
Other notable winners included Iggy Azalea who won the Who Blew Up Award, thanks to her global success with Fancy and Ariana Grande’s Problem, while Nicki Minaj scooped the Made You Look Award, no doubt due to her eye-popping, booty-shaking Anaconda music video.
