An upstart company in silicon valley has created a machine, which will turn urine into purified drinking water. San Jose based Yellow Miracle announced the new technology early this morning (April 24).
The World Health Organization recently reported that nearly 780 million people do not have access to clean water, and 3.4 million die each year due to diseases that originate from unclean water. Yellow Miracle stated this was their motivation for the work on this new technology.
Though urine is naturally non-toxic, it contains compounds that are undesirable to the body. These compounds can also be irritating to the skin and eyes. The machine removes these potentially harmful compounds from the urine and adds various chemicals that aid in flavor. There are various processes that already exist, which can make urine potable. Yellow Miracle is the first company to make an inexpensive product made to be used in everyday households.
The company’s founder, Richard Large, issued a press release, which read, “It has long been a dream of Yellow Miracle to produce an affordable product which will bring clean water to the masses. This product produces a safe, non-toxic, and great-tasting water source for even the most remote villages.”
The company also revealed plans to produce a fully mobile version of the machine, which can be carried on your person. The machine will attach to the person’s urine source and fill a pack on the individual’s back. As the urine travels to the pack, it will be transformed into drinking water. The pack will have a straw-like dispenser where the individual can have direct access to the purified water source on-the-go. Individuals will have their own sustainable water source no matter where they are.
The company has not yet announced a price the product or how it exactly works. Large revealed he is working with the nation’s top retailers to make the product immediately available around the world.
