A 20 year old man was reportedly raped after being dragged into a recess by three men as he walked in a street.
Mirror reports that the victim had been walking in Darwen, Lancashire with headphones in his ears when he was grabbed from behind.
Police said three men, who were wearing bandanas and scarves over their faces, were involved in the attack. Two restrained the victim while the other sexually assaulted him.
The attack, which happened between 6pm and 9pm on Tuesday, is being investigated by Lancashire Police’s force major investigation team.
Det Ch Insp Dean Holden, who is leading the inquiries, appealed for anybody with information that could help them identify those responsible to come forward.
The attackers were all described as being in their late 20s to early 30s and between 5ft 7ins and 6ft 2ins tall.
The detective said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on Balle Street or the surrounding areas leading up to the attack, particularly if they have seen a group of three men, to come forward and speak to us.”
The 20-year-old victim was said to be ‘coping’ and was being supported by family and specialist officers.
There will be an increased police presence in the area near the scene. Det Ch Insp Holden added: “I would like to reassure the public that incidents of this type are rare and there will be extra police patrols in the area where the attack took place.”
