A jealous ex-lover identified as Ian Hassen who hacked off his former partner’s hair in a fit of rage has been jailed.

Ian Hassen used scissors to cut away at Rebecca Watton's hair in an attack that left the mother of his three children bruised and almost bald.

Yesterday, at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Hassen was sentenced to 12 months. He had earlier admitted assaulting Rebecca in April last year.

Rebecca, 29, said she was both shocked and saddened by the sentence handed to Hassen.
She told the Daily Record: “I’m quite shocked. I didn’t think he would be sent to prison as the case has dragged on for so long.

“But I’m glad either way and I just want to move on now. I’m sad for my kids and what it means for them though.”

Rebecca, from Hamilton, had been in a relationship Hassen for eight years but the pair split, on good terms, in December 2012.

But Hassen, originally from Zimbabwe, refused to accept the relationship was over and in March last year he returned from the family home to look after the kids while Rebecca went on a night out.
When she returned, Hassen left but returned a few hours later claiming to have missed his train.
As the pair sat down to watch TV, he launched his horrific attack.

Rebecca said: “Suddenly, he just grabbed me and pulled something tight around my neck.
“Everything was a blur but I knew that this was only the very beginning.

“He tied me up and questioned me endlessly about what I’d been up to and who I had been with.

“I knew he had read my phone messages so I confessed I had met someone on the night out who had taken my number and asked me out on a date.”

Over the next three days, Hassen assaulted Rebecca and threatened to kill her.
She said: “He controlled my every move.

“He’d tell me to go to bed and sleep and then lie next to me and watch me.

“I was so afraid, I couldn’t eat, never mind sleep.”

The final assault came when Hassen hacked off her hair – then calmly Hoovered it up.
She finally managed to escape when Rebecca convinced Hassen they needed to go to the shops, and when there she told staff who called police.
